Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 Theories:

THE HALFWAY POINT HAS BEEN ATTAINED.

So, Deltarune Ch3 + 4. I love this game and all the external media and meta components involved deeply fascinate me and I think that trying to predict what happens next with it is fun! Even if i end up being wrong about things (which i definitely was during the Ch2 era), we have a year until Ch5 so I kinda just want to recap my thoughts so far, piece by piece.

Table of Contents

Part 1: The Roaring Knight

Recommended Readings and Viewings:

>>> "The Knight's Conspiracy Review" video by Andrew Cunningham on YouTube

The Knight-Spiracy:

>>> Inner Circle: Kris Dreemurr, Carol Holiday, The Roaring Knight (Most likely Dess Holiday)

>>> Associates: Asgore Dreemurr, Alvin Boom

>>> People of Interest: Toriel, Sans, Asriel Dreemurr

Their Goal:

>>> If they really wanted to cause the Roaring by summoning a Titan in Chapter 4, then why haven't they done so before?

>>> Has not been actively antagonistic towards the Fun Gang/Heroes of Prophecy.

>>> Kidnapped Undyne and took her into the Shelter. Carol allegedly told Kris about a "police sacrifice next week".

>>> The Knight was late to arrive at the Dreemurr home and try to kidnap Toriel, pointing to the true goal being to kidnap Undyne all along.

Part 2: The Prophecy of Deltarune

Recommended Readings and Viewings:

>>> "How to SAVE Deltarune" video by PlayerCarter on YouTube

>>> "The Importance of RUDE Buster" video by Brix Braxium on YouTube

Note: Exists in Hometown as a common religion but most people don't seem to have knowledge of the "specific details" presented in Chapter 4's Dark Worlds

Who Knows the Specifics?

  • Ralsei: Confirmed; Anti-Prophecy. (wants to change the ending by going down a True Pacifist Route)

  • Jevil: Very Likely; Prophecy Neutral.. (references future events but his distance/freedom from the outside world probably means he doesn't have much stake in how things play out, thus his neutral position on the matter.)

  • Spamton: Very Likely; Presumably Anti-Prophecy. (seems to reference the prophecy when delivering Tenna's flavor text. Tries to interfere with the prophecy by trying to take Kris's soul. Would have presumably been Anti-Prophecy back when his partnership with Tenna was still stable.)

  • Gerson Boom (Darkner): Confirmed; Anti-Prophecy. (Knows that Lord of the Hammer is based on the prophecy but wants to see the Fun Gang change the story. )

  • Seam: Maybe; resigned to their fate, but is excited by the possibility of uncertainty. (At least knows the tragedy of how the prophecy ends based on their nihilistic outlook. Jevil could have filled them in on specific details. Seems to know the identities of the Shadow Crystal holders even though the prophecy doesn't make reference to them as far as we're aware.)

  • The Roaring Knight: Very Likely; Unknown Prophecy Stance. (Top suspect for who could have given/left the Shadow Crystals for Jevil, Spamton, and Gerson)

How Much Wiggle Room Does the Prophecy Allow??

  • "The Lord of Screen Cleaved Red by the Blade" - Tenna can live past Ch3 if all the Ch3 Darkners are recruited; somewhat vindicates Ralsei's theory that going for a True Pacifist Route can get a better ending

  • Weird Route - So far, has not diverged from the Prophecy, but seems likely to go in that direction

  • Susie does not seem to perfectly match the description of the second hero, the Girl with Hope Crossed on Her Heart.

Sealing the Angel's Heaven

  • Most likely refers to severing the connection between Kris and the Player's Soul, thus ending the "game" of Deltarune, at least for that playthrough.

The Final Tragedy Required to Save the World

  • Option 1: Susie or "The Girl" Dies. Susie is given the most narrative weight when discussing the prophecy. The actual identity of the girl could still be Noelle or Dess instead. (I'm not a fan of this interpretation.)

  • Option 2: The Grand Fountain is Sealed. Would presumably result in the Roaring being averted forever. Would also result in the Dark Worlds and Light Worlds being severed forever, if not essentially destroying every Darkner, which would still go against Susie's philosophy that the Darkners should be able to determine their fates too. This is currently my favorite theory.

Part 3: Kris's Soul

Kris's Abilities Without the Soul

  • Light World: moves more stiltedly without the Soul, otherwise seems to be OK as long as the SOUL is within the same building or a similar range
  • Dark World: Yet to be seen. Kris's phone correspondent seems to need the SOUL to accomplish their plans in the Dark World.

Note: While unclear if this means that Kris is completely seperated from the Soul, Ralsei likes to encourage the Player to divert their attention to Susie at times and talk to Kris alone.

Who knows that Kris is being controlled?

  • Ralsei: consistently looks back at the Player in certain key conversations, knows the Player can change perspective characters
  • Spamton: tries to take Kris's soul for himself. seems to know that Kris is being controlled by it. possibly knows about Kris's soul from the Prophecy.
  • Carol: "You" in red text. Clearly the figurehead of Knightspiracy.
  • Asgore: Involved in Knightspiracy. Has some lines where he seems conflicted about Kris's current personal preferences and boundaries which is unusual for a parent.

Part 4: The Shadow Crystals

Who Had Them and How Did They Get Them?

  • Jevil: given one by the Knight.
  • Spamton: found one in the NEO body built by Swatch. (Note: the timeline of Spamton's backstory makes it seem like he worked in Queen's mansion the first time before he became Tenna's business partner.)
  • Why in the NEO Body?

Option 1 - Selfish Salesman: Spamton was always intending to use it himself to "get big enough to see past the dark" (presumably find a way to go to the Light World) for his own gain.

Option 2 - Doomed Businessmen-Loving-Businessmen: Spamton was originally going to use the NEO body to allow Tenna to cross between Dark Worlds. Presumably, Spamton's benefactor (garbage noise phone person) interfered to keep this from happening. (Possibly to make sure that the Prophecy wasn't diverted?) Would explain why Tenna references the NEO term.

  • Gerson: Was given one, presumably by the Knight. Notably never used it.
  • Carol Holiday: possibly has a Black Shard katana which resembles a Shadow Crystal and is associated with the Knight. Note: Asgore knows what a "Black Shard" is. (Black Shards are technically not equivalent to Shadow Crystals as far as we know but close enough tbh.)

Who Wants Them?

  • Seam: begins collecting them after the player defeats Jevil. Claims that they can craft something after they have 5 of them. (presumably the currently unused Pure Crystal item)

What Do They Do?
