Kirby Fan Characters

As I've mentioned elsewhere on the site, the three characters you see in the main banner for Graymin's Glyphs are some of my Kirby fan characters! To be honest, I never meant to end up making as many Kirby characters as I did, but it kinda just kept spiralling and now I have a toybox worth of them.

There's a lot of factors I think that contributed to my desire to create fan characters for Kirby and I think the most obvious is that the Kirby series just has such a fun mythos to play around with, especially when looking at the modern era of Kirby and the introduction of different factions and species into the world. Another pretty obvious reason I think a lot of people create a Kirby fan character is that they're simple-shaped and relatively easy to draw. Seeing how most of my SisterSent OCs lean towards Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem levels of detail, its easy to just sit back and just doodle an orb or a bobblehead character and get a 'full-body' drawing of that character in a short amount of time. The last big reason why I ended up getting very into creating Kirby characters is the fan community aspect. The Kirby fandom seems to be very welcoming to fan characters and I've found that theres a particulalry large sub-culture of the fandom that shares and celebrates fan characters on Tumblr and ArtFight specifically that I've always found very enjoyable and inspiring.

Anyways, without further ado, I'll start actually talking about these characters.

Dooloo the
Waddle Doo

Dooloo was the first Kirby OC I made back around 2019 when I was working on my Kirby fanfic "A King and Knight's Guide to Becoming Friends". Since her conception she has been the court mage of King Dedede known for her bold and confident personality. She is very much inspired by the comically snooty archetype of anime girls and is not afraid to use her magical abilities to beat someone senseless. She is also the estranged daughter of the Mid-Boss King Doo.

Hydrangea the
Floralian

Kirby Triple Deluxe is my favorite Kirby game and I've always felt somewhat let down that the People of the Sky never come back as there's SO much you can do with flower themed characters. Because of that, Hydrangea was another one of my first Kirby fan characters and she made a brief appearance in my canceled "Three No More" fanfiction as Taranza's friend and bodyguard. I've always liked very serious and stoic characters who just happen to have very cutesy designs and Hydrangea's no exception. In other drawings of her you'll see that she fights with a fencing sword much like Queen Sectonia.

Jambo the
Jambeliever

Jambo might be another familiar name to any of you who read "Three No More" where he appeared as a former acolyte under Flamberge until he became a member of the Meta-Knights after the events of Kirby Star Allies. Jambo is kinda just a hardworking and honest guy who doesn't like to trouble himself with drama. In a lot ways, he's kinda like the Lune Goons' very own Bandana Waddle Dee, though maybe just a bit more scrappier.

Fan the
Wind Mage

It seems like every friend group on the Kirby Universe needs at least one person with a mysterious relationship with Another Dimension and that just so happens to be where Fan comes from. Fan arrived on Planet Popstar after falling from a wormhole, completing the elemental set the Three Mage-Sisters had by adding wind to their respective powers over thunder, fire, and ice. That said, Fan is completely unaware of the Jamba religion and seems to just be a whimsical young lady with a love for cloud watching.

PAL-813 the
Haltworker

According to the Haltmann Works Company records, PAL was a Haltworker that became disconnected from the Star Dream server during the events of Kirby Planet Robobot and was accidentally attacked by security protocol. Since then, PAL has become a regular resident of Dreamland and has developed a unique passion for music and adventure. Despite their cute appearance, PAL has mischeivious streak, and has knack for causing trouble even with their well-intentioned antics.

Broomhilda the
Broom Hatter

Across the Kirby Universe there exists sacred locations where Copy Essences are at their most pure and the Stars align to spell out messages from the ancient past. These locations require custodians who hone their craft to keep these places pristine and safeguarded, and every craft needs a master craftsman. Broomhilda is the Master Witch of the Broom Hatters and the most powerful wizard native to Popstar. Time has turned her into something of a hermit who primarily devotes her time to training the younger generations but the wisdom she holds is crucial to the balance of Planet Popstar.

Digit the
Armoroid

Digit hails from the planet Mekkai, where they have seemingly taken the position of 'operator' for the abandoned mechanized planet. In contast to their fellow engineer, Susie, Digit is much more interested in discovering and faithfully repairing old technology rather than upgrading it. Digit has a relaxed personality and doesn't mind getting their hands dirty.

Roseluck the
Floralian

I'll admit it, the news of the remakes of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario TTYD got the gears in my head spinning about a Kirby RPG spin-off again and Roseluck is really just the result of me trying to imagine what a healer/White Mage archetype party member could look like in the Kirby series.
